Coolroom & Freezer Room Builds
Purpose-built walk-in chillers and freezer rooms designed for your exact space, workflow, and temperature requirements. From cafe kitchens to commercial packhouses.
No Off-the-Shelf Solutions
Built to Your Specifications
Every coolroom and freezer room we build is designed specifically for your space and your needs. We do not sell pre-fabricated boxes — we engineer custom cold storage solutions that integrate seamlessly into your existing building and workflow.
Whether you need a 2-metre-square chiller tucked into a restaurant kitchen or a 100-square-metre cold store in a packhouse, we handle the entire process from initial design through to commissioning and handover.
Our builds are constructed using high-quality insulated panel systems, commercial-grade refrigeration components, and finishes that meet New Zealand food safety standards. Every room is built to last and designed to operate efficiently, keeping your running costs as low as possible.
What We Build
Types of Builds
We design and construct a range of temperature-controlled rooms to suit hospitality, agriculture, food processing, and commercial storage applications.
Walk-In Coolrooms
Standard chiller rooms operating between 0°C and 4°C, ideal for fresh produce, dairy, beverages, and prepared food storage. Available in any size from compact kitchen units to large-scale commercial stores.
Walk-In Freezers
Heavy-duty freezer rooms designed for long-term frozen storage at -18°C to -25°C. Built with thicker insulated panels and high-capacity compressor systems to maintain consistent temperatures under load.
Cold Stores
Large-capacity cold storage facilities for packhouses, distribution centres, and wholesale operations. Multi-zone designs with independent temperature control allow you to store different products at their optimal conditions.
Process Rooms
Temperature-controlled processing environments for butcheries, bakeries, and food manufacturing. Designed with workflow efficiency in mind, featuring washdown-ready finishes and drainage systems.
How It Works
The Build Process
From first consultation to final handover, we manage every step of your coolroom build. Here is what to expect when you work with King Cooling.
Site Survey
We visit your site to assess the space, take measurements, and understand how the coolroom will be used. We look at access points, power supply, drainage, and any structural considerations.
Design & Specification
Our team creates a detailed design including panel layout, refrigeration capacity calculations, door placement, and electrical requirements. We present this for your approval before any work begins.
Panel Installation
Insulated panels are cut to size and assembled on-site. We use high-density polyurethane or PIR panel systems with cam-lock or tongue-and-groove joins for airtight, thermally efficient construction.
Refrigeration Fit-Out
Evaporators, condensing units, pipework, and controls are installed by our qualified refrigeration technicians. Every component is sized correctly for the room volume and intended use.
Commissioning & Handover
We run the system through a full commissioning process — checking temperatures, pressures, defrost cycles, and alarms. You receive complete documentation and a walkthrough of your new coolroom.
Quality Built In
Features & Finishes
Every coolroom we build comes standard with high-quality components and finishes designed for commercial durability, hygiene, and energy efficiency.
Insulated Panel Systems
High-density polyurethane or PIR panels with food-grade finishes. Available in various thicknesses to suit chiller or freezer applications.
LED Lighting
Energy-efficient, moisture-rated LED lighting installed throughout the room for safe working conditions and clear product visibility.
Strip Curtain Doors
Heavy-duty PVC strip curtains on high-traffic coolrooms to reduce cold air loss during loading and unloading operations.
Digital Temperature Controllers
Precision digital controllers with defrost management, high/low temperature alarms, and optional remote monitoring connectivity.
Stainless Steel Finishes
Stainless steel kick plates, shelving, and interior wall protection for hygiene, durability, and easy cleaning in food-handling environments.
Compliance-Ready Logging
Temperature logging systems that record and store data for MPI compliance. Available with automatic reporting and cloud-based access.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Most standard coolroom builds take between one and three weeks from panel delivery to commissioning, depending on size and complexity. Larger cold stores or multi-room builds may take longer. We provide a clear timeline during the design phase so you know exactly what to expect.
Yes. The majority of our coolroom builds are installed inside existing commercial kitchens, sheds, factories, and retail spaces. We design around your available space, working with existing walls, floors, and ceiling heights. Our modular panel systems allow us to build virtually any configuration.
The right size depends on what you are storing, how much stock you carry, and how frequently you access the room. As a rough guide, a small cafe might need a 2m x 2m walk-in chiller, while a packhouse could require 50+ square metres of cold storage. We will assess your needs during the site survey and recommend the right size for your operation.
